Lights, Camera, Casting - Trump Presidency

The movie about Donald Trump's Presidency and the campaign will probably come out the second he leaves office. Why wait to cast this movie? Not many ground rules on this one, as this is just our dream cast with no budget concerns factored into the decisions. Remember, this is not a look-a-like post. While we may pick actors and actresses based on looks, that is the not the main criteria here. Let's get right into this one...

@BarstoolKenJac: My original choice was Jon Voight, but I don't hate this at all. I think a big part of playing Trump would be nailing down his voice and mannerisms, and I think Bridges has the perfect vocal range and acting skills for both.

@JeffDLowe: Yeah Bridges just has the range, stature and dominance on screen to play someone as larger-than-life as Donald Trump. He'll be able to bring a bit of humor and sharp tone to Trump that will make him the perfect fit. I am sure some would want Alec Baldwin here, but not us, this isn't a comedy movie therefore we can't have that casting for the lead role.

@JeffDLowe: Any role that requires someone with bleach white hair, I am going to immediately cast John Slattery. While looking like the role your playing isn't a requirement for our actors here, it doesn't hurt Slattery that his facial features are spot on with the Vice President. RIP in peace to his great flow, though, because he is going to have to buzz that bad boy down.

@BarstoolKenJac: Not only can Slattery look like Pence, but he essentially sounds just like him too. That soft as hell reassuring tone, even though what he might be telling you is disturbing as shit. I can't think of anyone better suited.

@BarstoolKenJac: I don't have a ton of experience with Benanti other than that shart ass show 'Royal Pains,' but this isn't exactly a role that requires a ton of skill. All she needs is the ability to master the side eye.

@JeffDLowe: Don't worry KenJac, just going to leave her Melania impression from Colbert below and move on!

@JeffDLowe: He won't have too many lines, but we need to cast someone for the 'Young Baron Trump' standalone movie that'll happen one day, I am sure.

@BarstoolKenJac: Yeah not much doing here importance wise, although that eye rolling at the inauguration was hilarious. The Red Barron standalone movie where he rebels against his father to establish a communist empire in the United States will be great.

@BarstoolKenJac: This is another casting that won't require a ton of  work other than playing a face that you can tell is sort of a front for something more devious going on behind the scenes. And SPOILER ALERT: ever see 'Gone Girl'?

@JeffDLowe: Yeah we also need someone with some elegance for this role. Love or hate Ivanka Trump, one has to admit she has a distinct elegant persona about her (if you find it fake, that's fine, too, the point remains). As a huge Rosamund Pike fan, it's a no-brainer for me here. Early script insight: there won't be a scene where she kills Neil Patrick Harris.

@JeffDLowe: [SEE VIDEO]

@BarstoolKenJac:
 Agreed. Noone more versed in playing a dumbass child that constantly disappoints his parents.

@BarstoolKenJac: God I LOVE JIMMI SIMPSON. Dude has an unbelievable range of acting talent. I first saw him as Liam McPoyle who is maybe one of my favorite ancillary characters of all time. Then I saw him in 'Seraphim Falls,' 'House of Cards,' 'West World' etc. The guy can do it all. Unfortunately, he will be relegated to playing a petulant dumbass in this role.

@JeffDLowe: This role requires a little creep to it, you know? All I think about when it comes to Simpson and this role is his weird ass hacker character from 'House of Cards.' Pretty slimy cat, so really he just needs to channel that performance again and he is all set!

@JeffDLowe: Will there even be any lines in this thing for JGL? Kushner has spoken so little since this all started that it may be a silent role for Levitt. I assume Kushner will continue to be a part of the story as long as Trump is President so this casting will hold into place for now. Their look is pretty similar, almost exact, honestly, and JGL can capture that meek and unassuming presence that Kushner projects.

Side note here: someone the other day told me that they were sad JGL got cut from the 'Planet of the Apes' franchise. That was definitely James Franco, my man.

@BarstoolKenJac: Agreed in that we haven't heard much from Kushner other than him and Ivanaka apparently condemning every single bad thing Trump says behind closed doors. I'm sure in the motion picture we could get a lot more behind the scenes action of Ivanka and Kushner's relationship to the White House and all that so we could presumably put him to good use.

@BarstoolKenJac: Harney is a seasoned TV vet and honestly, Bannon has a hard look to replicate. And we are going to need some Ron Baker SFX to make him look like an open sore.

@JeffDLowe: Industrial Light and Magic will need to step up their costume and makeup design game for this one! Harney has a Bannon look to him already, but we will need some solid work to make him look a little longer in the tooth and... scabby?

@JeffDLowe: We can't take credit for this. But it was too amazing to not include. Shoutout to the person on reddit who made this revelation.

@BarstoolKenJac: What's known doesn't have to be said.

@BarstoolKenJac: Our experience with Kelly so far is limited, but from what we can tell he is a sort of strong but silent type. Simmons has that look in spades, but I don't know how well he could play a beta.

@JeffDLowe: Thought about Larry David for this role just based on the 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' moment General Kelly had in Trump Tower following the President's off-the-rails speech. We couldn't pass up on J.K. Simmons for this one. He has the look down and can pull off that stern attitude needed to match Kelly's as Trump's Chief of Staff.

@JeffDLowe: Once again, looks aren't everything for these castings, even though this isn't wildly far off, right? Think of this as Adam Sandler's comeback role. Imagine him fighting with the Mooch? This may be a tough sell, but you'll warm up to it. This also gives an inside track to Happy Madison to be the production company for the film, which means two things: lots of poop and fart jokes!

@BarstoolKenJac: I imagine Peebus is actually a lot like Sandler IRL. For certain loves a good fart and poop joke. Plus Peebus definitely has more than one XXL polo straight from the Adam Sandler red carpet collection

@BarstoolKenJac: My king Joey Mango will absolutely crush the Mooch. He may have to slim down 50 pounds, but DAMN would he kill it.

@JeffDLowe: Kill it, indeed. Joe is really the only person we considered for this role. No doubt in my mind we have signed Joe to a 3-5 picture deal. The Mooch spin-off movies are going to be wild. Think we may even have Justin Lin of the Fast and the Furious franchise direct one of them.

@JeffDLowe: Jude Law took the lead on this one because of the look - he really nails the look. This is another role with not a lot of screen time, but since Lewandowski was such a loose cannon, I could see Jude Law creating some Oscar buzz if he nails the role in some outburst scenes.

@BarstoolKenJac: The Young Grope.

@BarstoolKenJac: This is maybe my favorite casting. I can't imagine anyone better to portray the life and adventures of our favorite bumbling, bush-hiding, Hitler-mentioning press secretary than Odenkirk. I'm cracking up just imagining him bumbling over press conferences.

@JeffDLowe: This is also my favorite. There are so many ways for Odenkirk to go with this one. He's such a great actor and has already shown he can play a flustered and under the gun character, so this should be a walk in the park for him. Tab the Spicer spin-off franchise as a 3-5 picture deal for Odenkirk as well.

@JeffDLowe: Larroquette played a guy named Lionel Tribbey in 'The West Wing' (amazing show by the way - my favorite drama) and I always think of him when I see Tillerson. I imagine Tillerson is a lot calmer and collected than Tribbey, but fuck it, this is Hollywood, we are going to make him nuts in this film. His performance in the 'The West Wing' is just going to be copy and pasted over:

@BarstoolKenJac: Larroquette could pass as a major corporations executive any day of the week. Playing that with a garnish of dead eyed bureaucrat shouldn't be anything new or difficult for him. Also loved him in West Wing, very underrated performance.

@BarstoolKenJac: Here comes my queen Daddario to give this movie a literal drop of sex appeal. Playing the long "millennial" voice in the administration shouldn't prove to be too much of a challenge. Not that that matters, I mean have you seen 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief!?'

@JeffDLowe: If this thing just starred Kushner and Hicks, it'd be a silent film. Finding clips of Hope Hicks speaking are rare, but she is such a key component to Trump's team that this would be a huge role. We also save some on the budget here, because Daddario already looks a hell of a lot like Hope Hicks.

@JeffDLowe: "This has been Sarah Huckabee Sanders with 'Vital Information.'"

@BarstoolKenJac: Perfect. Although our first suggestions for this role were a sentient pile of shit and Grimace.

@BarstoolKenJac: I literally could not think of anyone for this, but luckily Jeff saved it with an ace casting. Put some old people makeup on that hobbit bastard and he's a dead ringer, you might not even need Keebler elf ear prosthetics!

@JeffDLowe: This might have been the hardest casting because no one even looks remotely like Jeff Sessions. Well, that was until I came across some silver-fox photos of Martin Freeman! He would need some makeup to weather him in the age department, but I can already picture Freeman nailing that Southern accent. (Sorry about the watermarked photo... it was too good to pass up)

@JeffDLowe: This one is just fucking ridiculous and I love it. I thought of Statham beating the shit out of people in movies and then playing weird Stephen Miller. I couldn't stop laughing. Imagine the President turning to Miller before firing him (prediction) and going, "...the White House always wins."

@BarstoolKenJac:
 Actually a great casting considering how aggressive Miller is in real life. Although I don't think I've seen Statham as anything other than a cockney accented Brit, I'm sure his Duke uni grad accent can't be terrible. Only con: still going to spend a fortune in prosthetics building up a five-head to match Miller's.

@BarstoolKenJac: Imagine in your mind a fat bastard that is universally hated by everyone. He keeps getting job offers even though his existing work stinks. A well known Mets fan? Still unsure which of these people above that I am referencing? That's because they are literally the same human.

@JeffDLowe: Honestly, after we cast Adam Sandler in this movie, I was determined to add another Happy Madison Productions/Sandler friend actor in here somewhere. This one made the most sense.

@JeffDLowe: The height issue will need to be resolved with some movie magic, but Mikkelsen basically already played Putin in 'House of Cards' for a few seasons. Why not just go for the real thing?

@BarstoolKenJac: I honestly don't see Mikkelsen playing anything other than either Putin himself or an alternatively named Russian autocrat. Although he was phenomenal in that one season of Sherlock, maybe my fave villain actually.

@BarstoolKenJac: A Midwesterner with piercing blue eyes and a rugged youthfulness ladies adore, it is yet another role Fraser was born to play.

@JeffDLowe: This was a no-brainer. Another role that Brendan Fraser will turn into a historic performance.

@JeffDLowe: Uh oh! You know what happens when three Happy Madison characters are in one project together? It officially becomes an Adam Sandler movie! "Did you see that new Donald Trump Adam Sandler movie? Was it better than 'Jack and Jill?'" Oh, also this is just a killer casting - McDonald has this role down pat.

@BarstoolKenJac: Adam Sandler movie alert! McDonald is perfect to play one of the many members of the aristocracy to have graced the Trump administration.

@BarstoolKenJac: Ever see 'Three Kings?' Guy crushed it in a military leadership role.

@JeffDLowe: This was another hard one to figure out. We couldn't quite put our fingers on who could capture Flynn. A lot of Flynn's tenure was a bit strange and controversial, so I imagine Clooney playing this role like one of his characters from a Coen Brothers film.

@JeffDLowe: Hahaha the fucking Stump the Schwab guy. So dumb, but not looking back.

@BarstoolKenJac: Never look back. Maybe the best out of this whole group on face alone.

@BarstoolKenJac: From a looks standpoint, this almost makes too much sense. It's almost a disservice to Streep though considering Clinton is basically a robot. Just please don't make her whip, nae-nae, or say Pokemon and go to the polls.

@JeffDLowe: Duh.

@JeffDLowe: The height. The deep voice. The serious tone. Vince Vaughn was born to play James Comey. Had he not starred in 'True Detective,' this might've been viewed as a stretch, but now it just makes too much sense.

@BarstoolKenJac: I'm so out of Vaughn in serious roles, but I'm presuming this movie wouldn't roll out with a script that looks like it was eaten and shit out by a thesaurus like TD2. Vaughn definitely has the vague mysticism people kinda have about Comey, so I'm right back in on this pick.

@BarstoolKenJac: I've never heard the good doctor speak, but based off looks alone this seems perfect. Imagining Bachman pitching to the press that Trump is actually the most healthy man alive is hysterical.

@JeffDLowe: The scene where the Doc gives Trump a clean bill of health will for sure get cut out of the movie. But this guy, who is one of the most incredible people to come out of the whole Trump Presidency and campaign, is the perfect role for a comedic performance from Miller.

@JeffDLowe: Tim Heidecker's impersonation of Alex Jones is one of the finest pieces of art that has been created this century. Enjoy:

@BarstoolKenJac: Jeff introduced me to Heidecker's impression and I have never been so blown away. Such an accurate rendition that would be okay with a standalone series for him too.
